1929 Bocote.

1929 Bocote.

Bocote is a bit oily and clogs sandpaper. It's very similar to Cocobolo in that way, and the appearance is similar, too. This piece was originally 16% MC, and after roughing in 2013, it took a total of 11 months to stabilize. It was moved to storage and stayed there for 8 years, before I discovered it! I have quite a few nice pieces of exotic and figured domestic woods in storage......should look through them a little more often than I do! 7 1/2" x 1 13/16", 12.3 oz. Sanded to 600gt, Danish Oil Natural, Beall 3-step buff.

I guess the color didn't change much while finish turning after 8 years in storage. Back in 2013 it was probably a much brighter yellow with shades of black. I think l still have some pieces of Bocote somewhere in the shop ... I should find them to see how much they have darkened over the years - maybe I won't even recognize them!

Hi there, Tom :)

It was stored in a large plastic storage bin with a lid, so it didn't see much light in those 8 years of storage. That probably has something to do with it. I have no memory of what it looked like when it was roughed, so nothing to make a comparison.....maybe it was lighter in color back then.....don't know.

Have a good day, sir...
