A Deeper Cut

A staved vase experimenting with a more aggressive cut on the rim and a small foot. The rim is ABS plastic, heated and formed before gluing in place. The black foot is just India ink, it has a small base plug. I'm interested in your comments, I can't decide if I like it or not! Zebrawood, ebony, ABS and India ink, finished with lacquer. About 7" tall. Inspired by the work of Virginia Dotson and Ulf Jansson. All C&C welcome.
It appears very thin

I think you got a keeper!
When you asked form comments I was going to suggest you google Virginia Dotson but I read to the end.

The abs looks interesting.

Like you, Steve, I find the piece unsettling. That sharp upward angled, spear point-like corner grabs my attention, uncomfortably. It's not a folksy, warm, homey piece. The reversed angle of the foot, also drew my attention, and I suspect that may not have been intentional.

Art is supposed to produce a feeling or response and this one does that. The success of the piece would depend on what you were going for.

The foot was intentional, check these out.... https://www.woodsymphony.com/ulf-jansson

First off, I think your work is amazing and would normally have no comment on this piece except that it is wonderful and I keep revisiting it. Since you asked for C&C... I too find it a bit unsettling. I think it is a combination of some of the comments above relating to the point on the rim and the foot interrupting the flow of the curve downward. I find the curve on your August 2023 submission more pleasing. As with an piece on this forum the photo doesn't always convey the real feel of the piece. The angle of view may be affecting how I feel about it. All in all I think it is excellent work!
