A Deeper Cut

A staved vase experimenting with a more aggressive cut on the rim and a small foot. The rim is ABS plastic, heated and formed before gluing in place. The black foot is just India ink, it has a small base plug. I'm interested in your comments, I can't decide if I like it or not! Zebrawood, ebony, ABS and India ink, finished with lacquer. About 7" tall. Inspired by the work of Virginia Dotson and Ulf Jansson. All C&C welcome.
Steve,
I looked at the pieces by Ulf Jansson you referenced. The ones where the bottom of the form and the foot are both black, don't attract my eye to the bottom, but the ones where the form and the foot are different colors definitely do. You're the maker and it's totally up to you how you want your piece to speak. Having the form flow into the bottom makes the bottom quiet, and having a break there draws attention to it.

Perhaps I've failed to make clear that I'm not judging--no way do I intend that. I'm only making observations on how it strikes me. YOU get to decide what you want in your piece and whether it's successful at achieving your intentions.

Clearly this piece was challenging, original and made with considerable skill. I'm looking forward to seeing your next piece.
