Ban Wa Renaissance

Teapot made primarily from Sapele, but also Koa (main handle), hard Maple (spout), and a copper pin to keep the lid precisely positioned. India ink and acrylic paints for coloring. All parts, excluding the main handle were turned on a lathe (some carved afterward). 5"h x 9.25"l x 3"w. This is based on a traditional Chinese Ban Wa teapot form, with some liberties taken in finishing and coloring.
Great piece, Michael. Really enjoyed the project follow-along ... especially how you deftly solved any glitches that came up in the process. Well done, sir!

Thanks a lot guys! This project was a fun. Nice combination of a lot of turning and a lot of embellishment. My favorite mix!

What a terrific second….no, third level piece Michael! Your attention to detail is quite impressive and as usual, not surprising! I got distracted from your follow along….time to go back and review it…my loss for sure! Being one of your biggest cheerleaders, an opportunity lost for sure. Your peek-a-boo natural wood sections are a great add as is your continuous finish through the bottom of the piece! Your coloring is interesting; I immediately start thinking about the immense challenge of picking color choices/ combinations….seeming endless challenge to this knucklehead! Outstanding sums this piece up nicely Michael!

@Russ Braun no worries on my end!! The latter part of the follow along ended up being more of a “what I did” instead of “what I’m doing”. There’s always the next one. No shortage of ideas here 😃
