Brazilian Rosewood box

A friend gave me a large chuck of this wood that had rot and was really odd shaped. He said you are probably the only person I know of who can do something with this. So I'm just starting on it. made a couple of pens and then this box. The base was actually the scrap I cut off the side to make the box blank. I liked the shape so textured it with wire brush and then burned the sides.
That's beautiful, John. Well done.
What's the size? What's up with the 'finial' at the top of the lid? Is that ring gold leaf?
