Cardial Lamp

Cardial Lamp

This is one of a series of pieces that I'm working on about problems with aging. The heart is carved and so were the AED paddles. The paddles are bleached cherry.
The AED took a ton a work because of all the maching needed to wire the on button to the touch sensor and still have access for possible repairs later. There are 10 seperate pieces in the AED. The oveall lamp has 30 handmade pieces.
The middle section of the lamp was turned from a green log by hollowing it through the pith. It's about 3/8" thick.
All of the EKG patterns and designs on the paddles were wood burned.
John, That is really good. Depressing, but really good. That's very creative. I don't like to rate any ones work but this one screamed excellent! First rating ever and probably the last. I love your photo. It's so warm and red like blood. Any symbolism there?

Ed I thought the heart arteries needed more kick or at least the suggestion of blood so I chose to use red as the background color. I also thought it helped bring out the red paddle dots on the AED paddles.
I really really wanted to use blue just to upset my friend Jamie but since I'm riding with him to Richmond I decided to stay away from that. :)

Hi John
LOve it . I know about cardiac as on 10th september last year I had a major heart attack and had to be shocked back. Interesting thing is also that we (my wife and I) have a lamp with a shade exactly the same as the one on yours. Also In case you didnt see my pierced lamp its in my gallery.
All the best (great piece) from
Jeff Greenwood
