Chips of Time

'mantel clock' -turning chips from a cherry bowl turned green, mixed with glue and compressed in a mold. Then drilled the opening for the clock.
Mike, I don't have pics of the mold, but I used 1.5" thick styrofoam cut out with a bandsaw into the required shape, then mixed chips with glue and packed them into the styrofoam cavity. You can put a round styrofoam insert in for the clock so that feature doesn't need to be drilled later. The base was done the same way, except while it was still wet, put the main body on top of the base chips and press down so there is good contact. Let dry for several days (it takes awhile because of the amount of glue).
Remove from mold and clean up the edges.
Have fun,
Benie

The clock is 6" high X 6" wide, body is 2" thick and the base is 1 " thick. Clock fits in a 2 3/8 " hole. Base footprint is approx. 1/2" larger than body it supports.
