Alan, your form, joinery, and grain alignment all combine to make this a wonderful piece. I can appreciate the difficulties with multi-generation construction. Regarding the photo, the harsh shadow on the left side is a problem.

Fantastic work. Congratulations! Have to agree with Malcolm about the shadows. Light control (softening, multiple lighting, reflectors etc.) would definitely help with harsh shadows. Another method to soften background shadows is to put more distance between the bowl and the background, and light your background separately.
