The Vikings were an interesting bunch. Around where I live in Argyll Scotland they were often to be found marauding, skirmishing with the locals you know the kind of thing... Anyway... As a result there are a number of burial sites along the coastline. It is said that on top of some of these mounds a tree was planted to ward off evil spirits that tree was known as the warden tree and each year a festival was held where it was honoured and thanked by having beer poured over it's roots.
This is the latest incarnation of my warden tree. Made from sycamore it is approx 5x3 inches and sits on a rock selected from the Argyll landscape held on place with a tiny magnet. The tree is turned then carved and pierced the piercing is then textured and finally pyrographed with a lacquer finish.
