This is an ash bowl which measures about 10 1/2 inches in diameter. The outside has been fluted and lightly bleached and sandblasted while the inside has been left pristine.
Thanks. I started the flutes using the lathe indexing and a router in a sled. That set the depth of the flutes and their position. Then they were widened and shaped with microplane rasps and then sanded.

Thanks. I start the fluting by using the lathe indexing and a trim router mounted on a sled which slides on a table attached to the bed ways. That sets the position and more or less the depth of the flutes. Then I widen and shape the flutes with microplane rasps etc, followed by sanding.
