I wanted to do something different with this unassuming rough pecan bowl. A bit of digging produced a black walnut board about a half inch thick already planed flat on both sides. I sanded the top flat with the five inch belt sander and glued the board on. Once on the lathe I trepanned the center out with the parting tool and shaped the bowl. After I got to the point of removing the tenon I decided to glue the walnut disc I cut out to the bottom to balance the look of the rim. Vacuum chuck and sanding board came in handy for that. Finished with a coat of teak oil and spray varnish.
