Maple yo-yo with 3-D effects

This baseball bat factory reject hard maple is perfect for turning...straight grain and zero defects. I'm using a new (to me) cabochon embellishment process called "water soluble image transfer" onto white polymer clay. The cab/image is then covered with clear epoxy resin. Gives off a pronounced three-dimensional look.
The effect is appreciated but not understood. Thanks for sharing.
