I am sure this is not what you had envisioned. This is my first "carved" piece and I wanted to make it a bit challenging for myself. It started out as a segmented turning with lots of cross grain gluing. Kind of a work in progress to up my skills a bit. I also wanted to see how it would hang together. Maple and Walnut. Wax finish. 5"D, 3.25" H.

That is CRAZY cool Paul!! Awesome job! IMO true definition of basket weave illusion on all levels!! The carved rim on the top with the laminates sells it!
