Bolo Tie & pendants

A bolo tie and pendants in a style i learned from Janice Weeks Levi. The stones are ground up pony beads. It has been a fun challenge, I have made a dozen so getting the swing of things.

Pony beads are cheap plastic beads you can find at places like Walmart. You grind them up into a finer grit and use ca glue to adhere. When turned they replicate the look of stone.

Thanks......also looked them up on Google and seen the pictures. Seen them before and only called them "beads".......never knew they had a specific name. Did you also make the braided leather? Very attractive set. I could see where these crushed beads could be used in lidded boxes and other turnings. Your nice picture leads the mind to wander :)

I learned how to crush sort and apply from Janice Levi. I started experimenting because I plan to make a few turquoise colored bolo ties for family mbrs for Christmas. They live in CO so they might even wear them. Since I bought all this stuff I might as well make a few other things.

The turquoise pendants Janice made could have convinced me it was real stone.

I bought the braided strap. I made a mushroom box today using this technique.

Hope to see the new little box on WOW or this Forum. Went through my wife's sewing box this afternoon and found a handful of these colorful little so called Pony beads. Imagine they crush easily and the trick would be from keeping the little chips from flying all over. Wish I still had my old Turquoise crusher pipe :-(

Crush them in a coffee or spice grinder then sort them with filter from 2mm or 1mm. This part is a little putty. Them ca glue them fill in 2nd round with smaller beads then when all dry turn smooth. I like said bought stuff.
