Silver Maple bowl

Silver maple calabash like bowl with a carved design around the rim. I meet with a great bunch of wood carvers weekly but they all do caricature carving and I just can't get into that. So I've been playing around a little with some chip carving designs. The harder woods that us turners like are really hard to chip carve though. This took 6 weeks of 2 hour meetings. And it's not even anything fancy. 9" x 6 1/2" finished with danish oil.
