Ash HF w spalted sugarberry cap

Ash w sugarberry cap. About 8+ inch diameter.
Hi Alan, This is beautiful! I'm curious as to your process. Where in the process of turning the Ash did you affix the sugarberry for the cap, and how did you work the sugarberry prior to affixing it. What adhesive? and then how did you finish turning it as an integrated piece. I'm deeply impressed by your portfolio in this album. Some of the members of my guild do a fair bit of HF, but I've yet to attempt it myself, so my curiosity about how one creates such a piece is always at play.

Thanks, Greg. Turned the hollow form first but opening was bigger than I like and a little crude so I turned the cap, kept fitting it on till it fit well with no gaps, then epoxied it in place.

Take a hollow form class—there are likely turners near you who teach. Watch YouTubes and read, but mainly practice. The right tools are needed. Start small, maybe doing a bowl with those tools to see how they work. Then do a 2 inch opening and work from there.
