John, thanks for the complement. The wire is structural, reinforcing two cracks in this bowl, as well as being ornamental. I did the same thing with copper wire the first time I tried stitching. The wire on this bowl is true silver and works well for this application. I believe I got the wire at a Hobby Lobby craft store.
As a note: I did use some reinforcing material as a precaution when hollowing the bowls. As know if you have turned for any time, what I did in turning blanks that had cracks is not recommended.
