Elliptical Arbutus Burl Live Edge footed bowl

An Arbutus Burl Elliptical live edge footed bowl turned freehand using a VOD 300 (oval device) Both the inside and outside of this bowl are turned while being chucked to the VOD. The bottom is a bit trickier as you can't use a vacuum on the VOD so it requires a donut chuck jig and also due to the irregular live edge the piece must be built out and supported to keep the bottom plane flat. Finished with 5 coats of tung oil. 13.25" X 8" X 4.5" high

Sometimes a piece is good just because the wood is so beautiful. And sometimes someone takes that wonderful piece of wood and creates a truly special piece. That's spectacular! You've done justice to a terrific piece of timber, and I applaud you and thank you for it.
