Figured Kamagong Ebony Capsule Box

It's time to introduce a new wood type! This true capsule shaped box is turned from Kamagong Ebony (Diospyros blancoi) and includes a Ray Key style inset joint between the lid and base. This wood turns wonderfully, it is super buttery when cut, sands extremely well, and takes a finish like not a lot of woods I have worked with do. The colors on this particular piece are wonderfully green and orange colored; this wood is considered figured. Turned, hollowed, and finished with gloss lacquer. Size is 2" tall x 1 1/2" diameter. I really enjoyed turning this wood, I posted some more photos below!

Very nice Gabriel. :)

Kamagong is a wood that I've not heard of before, and I just did a search for it. I see it's a wood from the Philippines and is has very limited availability.

It's not in the wood database, but here is a link for more information:

Wow Odie! I sure didn't pay $1,800 dollars, it only cost me $70 for this piece AND I have another one left for another box!! :)

Terrific capsule box Gabriel……or is it a pillbox??? Outstanding regardless!!
It is a capsule. The difference is in the proportions. This box has a longer bottom then the spalted beech one!
