Hop Hornbeam Burl Bark Edge

I got the wood for this bowl from a logger friend.
It's the only piece of Hop Hornbeam burl I have ever seen (in person). Very nice to work with, sands to a great finish (except for the bark pockets).

Diameter: 8 7/8 inches
Height: 3 inches
Finish: Oil sanded to 600, then shellac

And I CAN handle the truth!
Nicely done George, I have not seen a Hop Hornbeam burl yet and quite a bit grows around me. you did a great job choosing a form to display the grain, the natural edge is a bonus!

I "googeled" "Hop Hornbeam Burl" and found one other picture of a piece, so I guess burls don't grow on Hophornbeam that often...
I told a logger friend what to look for, he found it and cut it off for me (he should have taken the whole log section, I would have ended up with a bigger, more usable piece... BUT, I am really delighted with the outcome and glad to see that I am not alone.
Thank You For Your Kind Words,
G
