Oak Flame

Oak Flame is carved from Red Oak and measures 5” x 7”. The finish is airbrushed acrylics and lacquer. I’ve been making a number of these pieces, and each one is humbling. The shadows cast by this piece is one of my favorite things about it.
This is a truly stunning piece! The skill (and time) to pull something like this off seems daunting, but I'd love to try a variation of it sometime.

Sweet!

Nice 3D flame carving Jim! Was this turned end grain? My inner pyromaniac is thrilled with this piece!

Russ, thank you for your compliments. This was turned end grain. The blanks I cut from a thick cookie and dried for about a year. I would be hesitant to try side grain but it may work depending on the pattern.
