Orlan's Gavel

Our turning meetings for The Chapel Hill Woodturners are rather casual and sometimes our president (Orlan) has a hard time keeping everyone quiet, not to mention the guys who always seem to be searching for a bottle opener for their "beverages". I thought this might help him out on both counts. Each piece is made from East Indian rosewood and zebrawood. Thanks to Mike Stafford for the inset idea on the striker plate. I just happened to find an aluminum case that fit them quite well after the foam was added. He's a GREAT guy and seemed to like it quite a lot when we presented this to him. The bottle opener looked quite sturdy, but I had to try it out to make sure :-) .... works fine. Tung oil on the zebrawood and both were Beall buffed. About 14" long.
Thanks for looking and all comments welcome, Don.
Don-

Great looking pieces. I know about the informal meeting and loosing control of the meeting. Have that problem with the bunch in Lafayette. But we DO have fun and enjoy the meetings, have a home cooked meal, club business, Show & Tell then demo, clean up and head for the house.

Thanks for taking the time to comment, guys!
Odie: We turn all day every Thursday and have our meetings once a month at night that are just meetings; no turning at all. :-(

That is one fine piece Don, you always need something at the ready to keep the guys in hand, I love the way the rings picked up on the handel.
