1" dia. x 2" long
most are holly, a few are Japanese plum. 3/8" maple dowel. Prismacolor markers, spray lacquer.
these are just delightful ... when you say "3/8' maple dowl", are you inserting the dowel for the hook?

Thanks Mike & e!

Before these are turned, the blanks look similar to a wine stopper blank. The body is drilled about 1" deep. The 3/8" dowel (starts out about 2" long) is glued in place.
The dowel is inserted into a #2 morse taper collet chuck with a drawbar.
The "threaded" portion of the bulb is the 3/8" dowel. The screw eye I use is about 1/2" total length and 1/16" diameter.
These bulbs are a modified version of the ones by Judy Chesnut. Her article can be found in the American Woodturner Fall 2004 issue (page 39).
