Over The Top...Throw-Tops

Maple tops, colored with alcohol dyes. Cabochon embellishments are laser engraved/cut paper thin plastic sheet that has been laminated onto a MDF core...all original art.
What’s your technique to use the alcohol dyes? Very cool. Diluted? Brush? Airbrush? TIA.
The bottles supplied by the manufacturer are small and have a dispenser, similar to a CA glue applicator. Just squirt some of the dye on a paper towel and wipe the turning with it while it's rotating slowly on the lathe. Within 5 minutes, It'll be dry enough to handle. Use gloves...the dye is very aggressive.

I like this technique for adding detail to your tops that should never be thrown Ed. It’s always a pleasure to see what you’ve come up with next. What are those racks you are displaying the tops on?

The display stands are 1/8" thick birch plywood, cut on my laser...two parts that fit together. I make several configurations, for tops, yo-yos and playing cards. Sometimes, I'll dye the wood black to cover up smoke stains from the lasing.
