Sawtooth Oak Platter
Rob Price

Sawtooth Oak Platter

Roughly 12” wide and 2” deep. Polymerized Tung oil and Tripoli buffed.
I've often see this swirl pattern in large oak trees especially around areas near crotches or knots (wound heals). Any idea if there's an official name for this pattern?

Also, what finish process did you use on this piece?

@Karl Loeblein I used Sutherland Welles botanical tung oil. I sanded to 320. Three coats wiped on/off then buffed with Tripoli. I keep coming back to this finish. It expensive but you can’t beat the look and feel.
