(Headslap) When you cut your piece in half, it really opens up all manner of possibilities for peek-a-boo treatments inside. Curious to see what comes next!
Bandsaw. I use a variable pitch 14/18 TPI blade and my version of John Beaver's jig (I started with his plans, I'm now on something like my version 2.5). It's basically a circle jig with a place to mount a chuck. Cutting round things on the bandsaw needs something to make it safe - John's jig is one really good approach (even if you aren't making arcs - I used mine for some freehand cuts today).
