Southwest pottery illusion

Silver Maple, 9" x 8", burned, colored , textured hollowform. I combined a few different ideas from some Navajo and Hopi pottery. The colors are Faber-Castell india ink markers and the texture was done with a Dremel engraver with a blunt tip. Finished with Danish Oil.
I like this piece, the shape, texture, and color all complement each other and work well. Sorry if this is an obvious question, but why is the maple so yellow? Is it the Danish oil, the wood, or just the picture?

Unrelated to this post, but how much time does the embellishing and basket illusion add to one of your works?
