Spalted Maple Pot

Spalted Maple Pot

We had to cut down a dead maple tree before it fell across the road. Inside I found some fantastic color and spalting. Enough sound wood to make several hollow forms. 9" x 9", finished in Waterlox satin and wax.
Thanks, Jim. I really like turning pots in this orientation, even though it can be a challenge. It allows us to see and enjoy all that the timber has to offer. I never apologize for the natural checks, voids, and defects in the wood as many times the flaws are what gives a piece special character.
