Don, this view really shows off the texture as quite dramatic.
 
Hi Jonathan, nice to hear from you again!
The bowl was painted first, then the areas for the texturing were cut in. This was difficult because the bowl had warped a bit by then. Then the texturing was done and the bands were colored with a green (I think) marker.
