Sweetgum hollow form with sweetgum leaves

This piece came off the lathe with a shape that I liked, but no real character in the wood. I thought it was asking for a bit of embellishment, and what better decoration (well, I know, there are lots of better embellishments) than sweetgum leaves. I’m still new at relief carving, but here it is. Milk paint background and acrylic foliage. The piece is 9” tall and 8” in diameter.
