You say this is inspired by Mark Baker. Have you looked into the works done by Al Stirt? Google his work and you may find more inspiration there.

PS - he also teaches (in case you get the opportunity)

Hi Guys, it's very kind of you all to comment - I can see this has attracted some interest!

Peter - Yes they are carved, with a proxon carver and V gouge. I did this freehand but I'm thinking of trying another bowl similar to this using a home made indexing ring (maybe 72 index places?). i wasn't happy with the way the lines stop inexactly on the inner rim and i was thinking of using masking fluid as a guide for where to stop. I'll have to post up my next efforts.
Tom - Ive heard of Al Stirt but wasn't familiar with his work - thanks for the heads up, the carved bowls on his gallery are unbelievable! I love it when you look at what someone else has turned and get completely blown away by it! I just have to convince my wife to go on holiday to Vermont next year ;-)
