Toru 2
Toru II

Wood: Swamp Matai
Diameter: 270mm (10 3/4")
Height: 85mm (3 1/2")

The swamp Matai was probably buried in a swamp after the Taupo eruption, which was about 1800 years ago. The wood isn't the best to work because it is very brittle and smells like a swamp.
The piece is a multi axis turned piece and is air brushed with iridescent acrylic paint then lacquered.
I used plaited tussock to finish off the piece.
I will put a slide show of the making of the piece on my website soon.
Comments welcome.
Robbie ,great to see .but I would rather hold it .

Thanks Guys, You can view the slide show at http://www.wildwoodgallery.co.nz/toru.2.slideshow.htm
