Walnut hollow form

This piece is about 7” in diameter it is hollow with a 1/4” wall thickness. The butterfly’s are curly maple and are functional.
How was it turning it? Bill jones has a lot of tips on Ivory turning in his two books, Notes from the shop. The old English ivory turners were called bone grubbers, they basically scraped it; the point tool would be the most recognizable tool we still use from them. Interesting butterflies.

I have turned quite a bit of ivory with no problem. I haven’t read any thing on it
