Turned, carved, textured red maple. Sometimes known as Ambrosia Maple. $40 for a bowl blank, it's ambrosia maple. $40 for a log, it's red maple!
9" diameter made in 2010 or so
This 12 inch overall diameter platter was turned from a solid plank of walnut. The handles were cut, drilled and carved to create their shape. Texturing was added to the sections where the handles 'attach' to the platter center section to give them a hammered metallic look. Embellishments were...
Made this teapot a year ago, colored and pyrographed a design over the body and lid, did not like it, sanded it all off, and put it on the shelf waiting for inspiration.
"Live, Laugh, Love"
Picked it up a week ago and had another attempt with a different design. Turned from Pear...
This 6 inch tall vase was turned off-center from Poplar (okay, I admit I intentionally mis-spelled Poplar in the title...). I used a 3-point multi-axis method to generate the twist. Carving and texturing added some interest to a somewhat bland wood. The poplar was stained a darker color and...
I've been turning about 25 years (taught by a boyfriend [they have their uses]), but really immersed myself in it (and shavings) with retirement 1.5 years ago. Girls weren't allowed in shop in HS, so there are some gaps in my knowledge. I turn lamps, pepper grinders, bowls, lidded boxes, and...
This study was turned twice, carved, textured and colored by brush with acrylics. Colors were layered and sanded back to achieve what you see. The inside was dyed with black India ink. A clear coat was sprayed over everything. After a couple days it was lightly buffed with soft wax. The size...
Earlier in the summer I was asked to create an award for the city of Carmel, Indiana for an award that they are presenting in a couple of weeks. The award will be given to a local business that is showing strides in being a "green" company. I'm not sure what their criteria were for the...
Poplar and Birdseye Maple.
The body is segmented construction using poplar. The top and foot are birdseye maple.
Body is textured and painted with a flat black enamel.
The top and foot have a tung oil finish.
12" H x 7" D
Three piece poplar lamination (8/4 lumber). Water soluable dye (Cherry Amber). Multi-layer Hydrocote Resisthane Plus clear gloss laquer...rubbed out to a high gloss finish.
The textured area was carved and painted with a flat black enamel.
4 3/4" H x 10" D
9" dia x 2" h This piece of ash has some of the most pronounced curl in it that I've ever seen in white ash. I chose to keep this piece simple, and just did a understated textured pattern on the rim. I am waiting to decide what to do with the other section of the board. Comments...
This Russian Olive bowl was fun to turn. The rim has been lightly trimmed using the Sorby texturing tool. I think the small trim gives a little added dressing up to the bowl. The finish is Mahoney Walnut Oil. This bowl measures 9" w by 2 1/2" h and is buffed and waxed with...
Rustic/organic goblet done from Cherry. 6" tall, textured and stained, left natural on the inside. One of a pair of goblets made as a wedding gift, inscribed with their names and the upcoming date on the bottom. I kept a thicker base as a sense that this was something that has grown up...
