1642 jet out board tool rest

I want to make a tool rest for my lathe. The out board free standing tool rest jet has I dont care for.I like the idea powermatic has for the rest,and looked at the laguna out board rest and think it might work. Lagunas is under 150.00. any thoughts on this idea?
