AAW Portland

I did the virtual registration, just looked over what is available to view and see that a lot of the scheduled demos I would like to have seen aren't on the available view list. I wish that if AAW is only going to let us only view 20 we could pick which 20 we want to view. There were ones not available to view now that I would rather see than some of the ones available now. But that is just where my interests lie. Next time I will study the schedule better and watch what I want to watch live if I have time.

That would be nice but it isn’t practical. Recording has a cost. Editing has a cost.
They had 2 rooms set up as recording and live video demo rooms. That is they recorded in 2 rooms.
The symposium comittee selected demonstrations that were scheduled in the recording rooms.
If you or I were on the comittee we would have pushed for different demos. I appreciate they did what they thought was the best job.

The live demos were the same ones recorded.

I got a limited number of demonstration with a remote registration. The folks that attend in person deserve more choices. They pay more.

About 1000 virtual registrants at $100 per (rounded down guesstimate) equals $100,000. Camera people from what I was led to believe were volunteers. I don’t know what the people who edited the couple of videos I have watched were paid, but I hope it wasn’t a heck of a lot. I have no complaints about the virtual attendance because I knew what I was getting before I sent in my $99.00, but I would have paid more for more videos. The demos I watched live were great and the recorded demos are good too.

Having been assisting in our own club’s symposium, it involves a lot more work then you might think to set up cameras and to train the volunteers. I enjoyed the demos recorded but I’m sure in person was the best….

It's a shame they don't have someone check the sound first. Some are recorded with a loud hum (probably running power cables too close to feeds) and some of the demonstrators have the mic too close. It's sort of annoying to have it clipping and hearing every breath.
