AAW Registration Problems

I just registered for the AAW Symposium and was charged the full $285 instead of the Member's Rate for early registration. I sent an e-mail to the appropriate place for corrections, but I hope that others don't get caught like I did.

I guess that being a Pooh-bah doesn't earn me any respect.

In the online registration form there is a Name and Address Information section. At the top of that section there is a checkbox labeled "Please check this box at the left if you are a current AAW member".

I just checked your registration information in the database, and you did not check that box. It is easy to overlook that box. And you are not the first one over the last 3 years to overlook it. I could put make that box in bright flashing letters, but the office staff and I still feel that people could overlook it.

As a result, each registration is checked for membership or not, independent of checking that box. (This has been the process for at least the last 6 years). Your credit card will be charged the correct fee of $245.

The same thing happens with the paper forms.

I know I keep promising that all will be better in the future with the new software. But it is a fact that the membership will automatically be checked by the software when the 2007 and beyond symposium registrations occur. We had hoped to have the new software for this symposium, but the project just didn't get far enough to make that happen.

You are absolutely correct! Just for grins and giggles I went back as if to register and at first I did not see either the volunteer box or the member box. And then I figured out why. The box was smaller and on the other side of the writing. Everything that I filled in was to the right of the "question". I think you will get a better rate of members checking the box if it is part of the info, such as:

Name [...... ]
Current AAW Member (Yes/No) [.. ]
Street Address [..... ]
etc.

In any case, I thank you for helping the dummy. Maybe my waving a red flag will help others get it right. Hope so.

The office procedure will stay the same in case folks miss it.

I like your new format better. As I looked at it, I felt that there was a very high probability that I would have done things correctly if looking at it for the first time. Let's hope more people get it right now.
