Advice for new turners

I think the internet is still the same thing. You ask 1000 different people how to do something, get 1000 different answers....and then still find your own way. ;)

I have watched and read a lot on the internet about woodworking. A lot of that knowledge gets weaved into what I do, and in the long run what I do is some combination of knowledge from a few different people, and my own twist on it. I think the internet only expanded the number of people you get answers from, and the sheer volume of answers.

Definitely!

An example of gleaning info from the internet,
A few years back i taught myself how to make shoes, specificly boots,
Watched about a hundred youtube videos and read books,
Figured it out
