Another salad bowl.

I would definitely call this one a "Hawaiian" calabash salad bowl! I forgot the name of the other turner. That's what he should do, call his the North Carolina Calabash bowl. You can't call it a Hawaiian calabash if you are trying to make a decent copy of a Hawaiian calabash and have flat bottoms, embellishments, beads, coves, and more.

Thanks. Wasn’t going for a Hawaiian calabash. Just like this shape.

A very pretty bowl Rusty, but if you hadn’t said ambrosia maple I would have thought it was possibly elm, or something similar.

I have been experimenting with this form in elm. Just finished this yesterday. Watco clear danish oil. After it dries I will buff it out.

I like this form, but I feel like it needs a more “interesting “ wood. And slightly thicker sides.

It also has a very small crack not shown in the picture that does not go all the way thru. I’m considering adding a pewa.

After I made the first one my wife said she loved the shape and wanted more like that. I was surprised how level it sits for having a round bottom. I am planning on doing my next one in cherry.
