I believe it’s silver maple. The tree person who took it down claims elm. Bark photo and finished piece.

Bay laurel? It’s usually lighter and has smoother bark, but I’ve had several logs from older trees in the Petaluma area that look just like that. There’s a very distinctive smell to the wood

Not Elm , no zzz's in the grain. Looks like Honey locust by the bark
