My family is contemplating a move to Port Townsend in the far future and would love to chat with any turners that live in/near. If you are willing to talk about what it is like to live there...especially in terms of your woodturning please let me know. Thanks!
 
It seems to me that there is a woodworking school in Port Townsend, with a substantial turning component. Beth Ireland is a very accomplished turner who has been a principle in the school, if I'm remembering correctly.
 
I believe the woodworking community is built mostly around boat building. I live a ways away to the north and a little east. Port Townsend is a lovely victorian era town - lots of tourists to the old town section, but lovely areas just outside of the town and in the smaller ports to the south like Port Ludlow.
 
Googling, from a cost of living standpoint Port Townsend is about 115% of national average.

Louisville Co is 150%.

Seattle where I live is 170%.

It's definitely affordable unless your want a house on the bluff above the downtown with a view.

Woodworking is mostly oriented to wooden boat building. Turning is a big part of that. Edensaw Woods nearby has turning woods.

The only drawback I can think of it's a small town and 2+ hour drive and ferry ride to Seattle and airports, etc.

Tourism is big. Last time I was there was mid week in the fall with no special events going on and no on-street parking spaces available in the main part of town.

Their annual boat festival is mid-September. Might be worth a trip if you can do it on short notice.
