Hi everyone!
Apologies for the delay in getting this posted--the past week or so has flown by in an instant. Anyway, considering the shorter-than-usual timeline, I figured a nice bowl challenge would be a good idea. And, what is the best kind of bowl (inarguably, objectively, absolutely true)? A salad bowl! Of course, salad bowls being the "best" type of bowl is a joke, BUT they do make for a nice challenge, as the specific form of the salad bowl can be one of many. The only real requirement is that the bowl has a stable base--either a large foot or a flat bottom. Imposing a single limitation here, no carved feet. When you make your bowl, consider that it should be 1) functional, 2) big enough to hold enough salad to serve multiple people, and 3) nice enough to be a centerpiece for your table/shelf: a proud, useful, attractive object.
Here are a few really nice bowls for your inspiration (made by @Dave Roberts, @Robert Woodward, and @James Seyfried, respectively):

Good luck, have fun, make shavings, and let the chips fall where they may!!

Here are the challenge rules, as determined by AAW Forum legal counsel Dewey, Cheatum, and Howe:
- Entries must be posted in this thread by 11:59 PM Coordinated Universal Time (ish) on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.
- Post two photos of your piece in this thread, one showing the normal view and the other showing the bottom of the bowl. Please don't crop your images tightly (meaning, leave a bit of room in the image so I can add your name later). Only one photo will be used in the voting thread.
- Your bowl can be embellished or natural, though it's probably best to not embellish the interior. There are plenty of opportunities to get creative here, so feel free. Include the dimensions in your entry post.
- As always, this is a turning contest, not a "moldy oldie" photo contest, so in fairness to everybody, make sure your work is something you have made since this challenge was issued on April 14, 2026.
- You may not post any photos of your entry in this month’s challenge in any other thread or in the gallery until the voting has ended and a winner has been declared. Your are allowed to solicit information on mounting strategies though.
- Voting will take place from April 30, 2026, through 3:59 am Coordinated Universal Time on May 2, 2026.
- Solicitation of votes will result in disqualification.
Good luck, have fun, make shavings, and let the chips fall where they may!!
