This month's challenge was to find something that isn't normally made of wood, and make a wooden version. As expected, and as I hoped, the entries were quite varied. I am impressed with creativity and craftsmanship on display!

Now, the challenge for all forum members (this means you and me) is to choose a favorite. Voting begins now and concludes at midnight UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) Tuesday, 2 September, 2025. You are allowed one vote; once you have voted, you won't be able to go back and change your vote. After you have voted, you can track the vote totals. The voting is secret (just like an actual election), so nobody else can see who you voted for (not even the moderators/administrators). In case of a tie vote, the forum moderators will gather in a virtual waist-deep green shavings-filled shop to determine the winner.

As in all previous challenges, the winner might have to pass a lie detector test before being awarded the Grand Prize (rumored to be a punky wooden ratchet wrench!).

The following are this month's entries. FYI, you can click on each image for a larger view:

Congratulations to the August challenge winner, Dave Potts, on your great-looking fly reel. I also have fly fishing gear that has only been used a couple of times in the four decades since I bought it.

Also, a shout-out to Rick Moreton for the great-looking flowers. At first glance, I thought they were real.

@Dave Potts big congrats! Your piece was very well done. I have limited experience fly fishing. Enjoy it, but never got good/patient enough to stop snapping off my flies. Haha. One day I’ll get back to it.

@Bill Boehme thanks for posting the congrats message. I’m on the road, and couldn’t catch a breath.

I used to fly fish a lot when I lived in Colorado. I want to get back into it, but I know I'll spend a bunch of money if I do. Turning is enough of a hobby for now.
