As a follow up to the thread about chain saws I'd like to specifically focus on the chain oilers. I have a Stihl MS-170. When I first used it I used Platinum Bar and Chain Oil from Stihl. There is no oil adjustment so I thought I'd switch to a heavier oil and see if that made a difference. I switched to plain Husqvarna bar chain oil which is thicker but I still get a mess and have to clean frequently. I wonder if cutting the bottom off the cover as was suggest in the other thread might help? I'm afraid the gummy mixture still wouldn't wouldn't come out. I don't use this little saw on large trees, rather just trimming. Cleaning is hard because the material is so gummy with oil. I end up using tooth brushes and toothpicks. The saw has to be stored with the oil cap up or oil will leak out and make a mess. Appreciate your experience with chain saw bar oil and cleaning.
