Got 2 new woods to try turning. First is Blueberry, some of which I can get 3"-4" cross-grain bowls from, and the second is Rhododendron, 12" diameter. Both are green and I have the ends all waxed nice and pretty. Any info on either or both is very much needed. Thanks in advance!!!! :confused: :confused:

4" Blueberry.........12 Rhododendron.............you live near a nuclear waste dump? ;)
 
Naw...just good clean country livin'.....'bout a mile south of Heaven!!!! Both woods are about 65 years old. I only have one piece of Rhody 1' diameter by 3' long. The Blueberry came from a near-by Blueberry farmer's burn pile, so I have a limited supply of wood big enough to do anything with. By the way...got a couple of chunks of Blueberry that are 6" in diameter!!! Gonna save those for something VERY special!! :cool2: :cool2:

When you have finished a turning from the either wood please post a pic so we can see what those woods look like.

Yup...it has fine blue lines that follow the growth rings....hope it stays and does not fade. It is a white/cream colored wood, lots of inclusions and other neat interesting stuff... Thanks for tip on the Rhody. Will try to post photos of both at a later date. :cool2:

? 6" blueberry? WOW!
Here in MN blueberry plants are not near that size. One inch would be large.

How far south of heaven is hell? :)
 
Mr Don, I don't know anything about the blueberry...
I suggest for you to turn the Rhododendron asap, really thin, and let it warp, and be surprised. :D
Mind you, I've never turned it, either, but I've seen it after it was green turned and dried. It was about the weirdest piece I've ever seen... highly unusual, because of the shape it became when dry... very, very, warped and wavy.
