If you haven't seen the AAW Home Page today, the results of the Board of Directors 2013 election results have been announced.

Congratulations to Art Liestman, Philip Hauser, and Denis Delehanty - each will serve a 3 year term beginning 1 January 2014.

Congratulations guys.

Curiosity, do they go through an orientation between now and January 1st to get them up to speed? I imagine they don't have a complete handle on what the AAW has been doing over the last year or two.

Dale ,
There is. New board member attend board meetings by teleconference as observers. This provides an insight on how the meetings run and more importantly an understanding of the active agenda items. During the nomination process each are encouraged to read and become familiar with the by laws. The minutes of recent meetings are provided too.
Each board member will get different advice as well. Soon after i was elected, President Phil Brennion called me and covered a lot and suggested I be on the phone conferences and to begin thinking about which committees I could contribute most to. I also had conversations with a current and former board members at club meetings and two former board members called. Each made themselves available for questions. Advice was more along the lines of how to prepare for meetings and what they saw as key issues. I also got a call from a committee chair suggesting I think about serving in his committee.
