I am new to the forum and just getting started in wood turning. I have been turning some basic bowls and some bowls with segmented rims using an old Delta 11-1/2 lathe from the 50’s and some carbide turning tools. My main interest seems to be in segmented turnings.

This is typical of what I have been doing. An 8” Curupau bowl with a 36 segment African Blackwood rim.

Welcome, I believe and hope that you will find this a helpful and enjoyable experience. My standard advice for turners getting started.
1. Find and join a local chapter of AAW if you haven't already. Here is a link to the find a chapter page on the AAW website. I am confident that you will find a friendly and supportive group of like minded individuals.
2. Seek out professional training and education. This makes climbing the learning curve so much easier. Trying to solely teach yourself from YouTube is a risky path. When you're starting out you don't know good advice from bad.
3. Consider joining AAW, the decades of resources alone make this a bargain, in my opinion.
