Hi. I joined in the 80s when I had the very special experience of a Memorial Day weekend with David Ellsworth (and Wendy) in the woods about an hour and a half north of us. It was sunny, the doors wide open, only one other student, and migrant songbirds were singing while I taught David warbler songs (he obviously adored nature in all aspects) and he taught me the moves of woodturning. It was epic. His death moved me to rummage through my rejects and roughturns. I too was able to blend my vocation (environmental lawyer) with my passion (nature and the environment)--starting at the beginning when Richard Nixon created USEPA and a new Section in the Department of Justice. There were 8 of us. I fight fiercely with environmental non-profits wherever I can. I wrote two articles for American Woodturner on environmental responsibility--mainly on selection and avoidance of "exotic" woods.
It's great what you all have done at AAW.
