Bio I’m a 59 year old native Marylander who worked as a cabinetmaker for over 35 years; I have been involved with art most of my life. While I have sculpted in clay, lost wax, acrylic and other media, I’m finding that I most enjoy painting with acrylics on canvas and turning wood projects on the lathe. I picked up turning on the lathe about 5 years ago, I'm totally self taught and really like to think out side the box. I want to expand in both the painting and with my lathe work. I plan to add pyrography, carving and Intarsia to my wooden pieces, painting on them with dye and using more involved subjects in my paintings and wood work. I am looking forward for an opportunity to share my art with others here while I continue to grow and expand my art style and repertoire.

Welcome. Seems like you have a wide variety of materials and embellishments. The latest issue of the AAW magazine has an excellent article on airbrushing.

Thank you John yes I have a few tricks up my sleeve I've been making art (in one form or another) for about 50 years now. Could I please get someone to tell me the difference between the Members gallery and the photo gallery or are they the same thing?

Albums are just a way to group and arrange your images. For example, you might want have an album where you put hollowforms and another for bottle stoppers. You can arrange the order of images in an album. You can also view your media where images are in chronological order and can't be rearranged. You can move images from one album to another or from an album to member galleries or vice versa.

Most members just upload images to member galleries especially if they don't have a large number of images. The best way to figure things out is to just upload some images and create an album and move the images around.

Great thank you Bill, do they choose a turning of the week, month or similar here on AAW ?

Great thank you Bill, do they choose a turning of the week, month or similar here on AAW ?

Since the new AAW website went live a few weeks ago, it appears that the turning of the week is no longer there. However, they have been adding features and fixing problems in real time so I anticipate that the turning of the week will reappear.

I would like to have the TOTW implemented on the forum which was part of the original plan when we switched the forum software to XenForo back in 2016, but never got implemented.

Frequently the TOTW is chosen as a good example of the lead topic in the forthcoming issue of Woodturning FUNdamentals. A well done photograph goes a long way towards being chosen. You also must be an AAW member to be considered for the TOTW.
