This is a southwestern style hollow form from Catalpa wood with walnut accents. My first time turning Catalpa..........boy it sure takes a lot of effort to get the wood to finish decently........dry sanding, wet sanding, shellac application to stiffen the fibers, more dry sanding and wet sanding........

The form stands about 9 inches high including finial which is 3-1/4 high, and the form itself is replicated in the finial detail. The width is 7 inches across. As of now it only has one coat of wipe-on-poly, and I will buff it out, and apply several more coats of WOP, so the final finish will be a bit more glossy.

Very nice Roger!!!!! You are definitely improving!!!!!!
I have turned some for the first time this winter-neighbor had taken small tree down (?10-12" diameter) growing thru a pine tree path. Made reg bowl, and then just have finished a natural edged bowl. You are right, it is tough to finish. The reg edged bowl was ok, but the nat edged took the danish oil so irregularly. I may have only put on one sanding sealer, but should have put on 3!!!!. It is a pretty wood. Nice contrasty rings. Gretch
